“In the year 2010, CANADA  exported   a total of 15,733 tons of  Horse Meat for Human Consumption to Foreign Countries, including France, Italy, Japan, and other countries.  In 2007,   Horse Saughter ended in the United States, but a U.S. Law STILL has not been passed which would prohibit the sale, transport and slaughter of horses for human consumption.  As a result, there has been a 40% increase in horse imports for slaughter from the U.S. to Canada.

On October 5, 2011, NDP MP Alex Atamanenko reintroduced the Bill to END Horse Slaughter in Canada.  The new proposed legislation is Bill C-322, an Act to Amend the Health of Animals Act, and the Meat Inspection Act, thus prohibiting the IMPORTATION or EXPORTATION of horses for slaughter for human consumption.”
