DISGUSTING, APPALLING, OUTRAGEOUS, UNACCEPTABLE!!
The recent decision of U.S. President B. Obama to legalize and re-open slaughter plants within the U.S. which will effectively enable and aid the continuing brutal wild horse round ups of the Bureau of Land Management, enable rich cattle barons to encroach on lands designated as protected areas for the wild horses within the U.S. is DISGUSTING, APPALLING, OUTRAGEOUS, UNACCEPTABLE!!
Could this act on the part of the U.S. President be in response to the Private Members Bill C-322 to End Horse slaughter in Canada currently before the Canadian House of Commons? If this Bill C-322 does pass it means that U.S. horses will no longer be exported to Canada for slaughter.

The comment made by PETA in regard to the re-opening and legalization of these US slaughterhouses which have been banned since the mid 2000’s, is DISGUSTING, APPALLING, OUTRAGEOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE.
Instead of justifying their stance by stating “ it is better that horses be killed where they stand or nearby, not sent on those journeys” they need to take a pro-active stance and take immediate measures to have the BLM roundups and slaughter ended period!!! Any other action or statement to the contrary is a contradiction, a statement in hypocrisy and an insult to the hundreds of thousands of people who vehemently oppose what is going on. THIS WRITER IS NOT ALONE IN FEELING THIS WAY given the comments which I have received in numerous emails.

It totally boggles the mind of this Blogger that such hypocrisy, such flip flopping and that any kind of support enabling the brutal BLM round-ups for slaughter of a National Heritage and Treasure to continue is even tolerated, particularly when 70% of the US population is in opposition.

“Though the horse family is endangered world wide, wild horses and burros on public land remain on the very bottom of the totem pole of priorities of both the Bureau of Land Management & U.S. Forest Service. These are the two agencies charged by law with protecting & managing them. These two “national heritage species,” have rights to live free that are covered by the unanimously passed Public Law 92-195 and that are supported by many millions of ordinary U.S. citizens as well as people worldwide. For these and other sundry reasons, the extent of livestock grazing and the number of permittees involved both in the original Herd Areas and in reduced Herd Management Areas should be clearly spelled out to the public – but this is not currently the case!
My overall analysis reveals an effective displacement of the wild equids from at least three fourths of the public lands to which they are legally entitled as the “principal” presences for which to be managed. “

Perhaps if that particular 70% of the population who opposes what is going on actually boycotted all beef products produced in the U.S., thereby putting a literal bite in the political contributions donated by such an industry (which results in nice tax deductibles for such wealthy producers), as well as the tax dollars derived from cattle operations, one would see massive reductions in beef herds which are currently encroaching on the grazing and land rights of the wild horses across the U.S. which was guaranteed by the “Public Law 92-195 and that are supported by many millions of ordinary U.S. citizens as well as people worldwide. “

I think Obama has gone as far as he can go to prove himself to a man incapable of rational thought concerning animals, and the environment of this country.
I almost don’t care at this point who wins the election, as long as it’s not him.
Horses have been an integral part of our history and how we got to where we are today. Horses were used in building America: pulled plows to till and plant our food, used in building our canal ways and railroad, got the mail to cities in times of western expansion with the Pony Express, and who could forget Paul Revere riding on his horse to war “The Brittish are coming!” Please stand up for this issue and don’t let Obama continue the needless cruelty. I’ve seen the videos of how they torture the horses in the slaughter houses – one film showed them stabbing horses in their spines multiple times – a very eye awakening on how all animal foods are slaughtered by inflicting cruel and excruciating torture. This needs to be changed for all types of slaughter houses. Why can’t they develop some kind of guillotine contraption that beheads them in one quick shot rather than stabbing, shooting, slitting their throats and hung to drain their blood until they die? Really, you need to see these things to know what’s going on.
Why oh Why do not the Powers that Be see the important contributions that horses made over the decades in the development and prosperity that the US enjoys today?
Why oh Why do they not recognize the thousands of horses that sacrificed their lives not only during the US civil war, the American fight for Independence and the two World Wars?
